Siena erscheint mir immer wie eine Stadt aus der Märchenwelt - die Gassen im Rondell parallel zum Piazza del Campo angelegt, die fast mittelalterliche Stimmung und die vielen kleinen Geschäfte, die noch aus einer anderen Zeit zu stammen scheinen.
Siena hieß es diesmal aber auch kulinarisch zu erkunden. Und das mit der Tuscan Wine School, die neben Weintouren und einem kleinen Shop auch eine zweistündige Siena Food Tour anbietet.
Nach der Begrüßung mit einem erfrischenden Sangiovese Rosé und einer kurzen Einleitung ging es mit unserem Guide Sarah zu drei kulinarischen Stationen in der Altstadt: Antipasti mit dem Cinta Senese und Pecorino, Caffé und Gelato, das einem die Tränen in die Augen jagt, weil es einfach so gut ist. Hierzu noch der Tip: Fernbleiben von Gelaterias mit hohen Eistürmen und zu grünem Pistazieneis!
Zum Abschluss wartet am Ausgangspunkt ein weiteres Glas Wein, die Verkostung von Olivenöl, Balsamico, Trüffeln, Honig und Schokolade. Leckere zwei Stunden in denen man Siena noch einmal ganz anders erkunden kann. Buon Appetito!
To me Siena is a place out of a fairy tale - alleys parallel to its gigantic Piazza del Campo, an almost medieval atmosphere and shops that seem to be founded in a different century.
This time's trip to Siena, however, had been of a more culinary nature enjoying a 2-hour Siena Food Tour with the Tuscan Wine School located in the middle of Siena's historic centre.
Being greeted with a refreshing Sangiovese Rosé and a short introduction by our lovely guide Sarah we started off walking to three different stops: Cold cuts and cheeses including Cinta Senese and pecorino, locally brewed caffé and gelato that almost brought tears to my eyes being so incredible tasty which also came with the tip to always avoid ice cream shops with too high ice cream mountains and unnatural green pistachio ice cream!
Returning to the Tuscan Wine School we finished off with more wine, a tasting of olive oil, balsamico, truffles, honey and wine infused chocolate. Very tasty two hours and a great way to explore Siena from a different angle. Buon Appetito!
